SPRING DEBATE
Each spring, students respond to a given issue or topic within science through the methodology of debate. Students debate to learn how to reason and use critical thinking skills, to listen and hear other people's point of view, and to use logic and persuasion within discussion. The goal of the spring debates is to allow students an arena that fosters these goals above and teaches them the difference between argument and quarrel. Though exciting, these debates can bring students to understand why there are differing sides in mundane and contentious topics of life (such as but not limited to: politics, economy, religion, society, ethics and priority).
The videos provided below are to help students experience the "parliament debate" format before they are asked to stand in front of community members and their peers. Please encourage your peers, students, or fellow community members to excel in their thinking and use of argument.
