Field Seminar #1:  Stub Stewart State Park (Camp/Hike)

Picture
Our own backyard has so much to offer in the study of life science and ecology.  Our first field seminar comes at a time when the students will be studying ecology juxtaposed to taxonomy.  These key elements provide a deeper, richer understanding of the living environment around us and will offer many extensions during this specific excursion.  At night we will explore the nocturnal world of insects as we discover which flyers and crawlers come out at night.  In the morning we will focus on the different plant species (both native and invasive) as we hike through gorgeous trail systems.  As an added bonus, camp the night with us and enjoy a campfire environment with smores and doh-boys; I am sure songs or stories will be included.  The next morning we plan to have a community breakfast, remember to bring your chairs to sit around the community table.  As each seminar draws near, the need for support grows as well.  If you are able to help with details of organizing food, transportation, or camp gear; please email me as soon as possible.  For directions or additional information, email me directly.

***Students and families are encouraged to come to the night portion, morning hike or the entire event.  I hope that you can join us as we explore a little more of our backyard.
